Salon Lucero The Intimate Set

Sunday August 27th
8pm
Salon Lucero Presents:
The Intimate Set!

Poetry By

Sonia Mukherji

Sonia Mukherji was born in Calcutta, raised in Maryland, and lives in New York. Her pieces have been published in the literary journal Stylus, and she has performed in venues in NYC and Maryland, including the Bowery Poetry club, where she appeared in a showcase at the Urbana Slam Finals, as an Uppercase feature at Bar13's LouderArts series, and at Barbara Purcell's book release party for Black Ice: Poems, in Teabag Lounge. "Her love of mythopoeia in her poetry creates situations that are entirely original and quite exceptional in one so young. They have a raw passion which is as pagan as her images--and as primordial," says literature scholar, Kaveri Dutt.
Sonia graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, as a Math major, and has also trained as an Indian classical dancer for 19 years. At 17, she was Miss India Maryland at the national Miss India USA pageant, 2001.
Sonia's passion for performance and poetry parallels her desire for derivations and denotations of Calculus proofs.
